tld reference
.com
the default namespace of the commercial internet.
.com is still the trust default. Forty years after delegation it carries more brand weight than any newer extension, especially with non-technical users — when someone hears a brand and types it without thinking, they type .com. That trust premium is why secondary-market .com prices stay an order of magnitude higher than every other TLD.
The downside: short, memorable .com names are gone or expensive. Most modern startups end up with a longer phrase, a hyphenation, or accept a non-.com. Verisign's wholesale renewal price is regulated and rises a few percent yearly under contract with ICANN; expect $11–$15 retail for years to come.
